Horse Trading

Today turned out to be a very good and productive day, I seem to be on a lucky streak that I hope continues throughout the year.
I am a big fan of Bartering, in fact I barter for many things.
Bartering is better than cash which can be in short supply from time to time, 5 years ago I introduced a couple folks here in the village to the notion of Bartering instead of cash, Bartering can be anything from trading labor to trading items of equal or lesser value etc. its up to the folks that are entering a barter to reach their own agreement on the terms, its a win win for everyone usually. Since starting with just a couple folks, our village seems to have caught the Bartering fever, now more and more people are coming aboard, Id guess in another year or two most of the village will be bartering back and forth to some degree.

Today, I did some Bartering (Horse Trading), I agreed to put together a deck for an elderly gent, that includes staining, so I traded my labor for his lawn tractor, its an older model but runs and drives like new, dont let the photos fool you, it aint pretty but it runs and I very badly needed it as our property is just too damn big for push mowers.

its an older Craftsman 14 hp lawn tractor, I start the deck tomorrow, I figure 3 days labour at 10 hours per day is a fair trade for the tractor!

not only will this little tractor work well around our property but I can add attachments to it as I find and barter for them, such as a tiller, trailer, snow blower, plow blade etc. it will also be a great tool for my latest endeavor, Today I was also hired as the groundskeeper for the Anglican church and cemetery here in the village, the little tractor will be ideal for zipping around all that property as well.

guess thats all for now, yall should consider Bartering, its fun, its free, and a great way to get rid of usable items that you no longer need or want, plus it keeps stuff out of the landfills.

Fathers Like a Fathers Day to Everyone

Happy Fathers Day to every person on the planet that has strived to be the best Dad that they could be, as well as everyone who is or has been Like-a-Dad to someone somewhere sometime, My Father (God rest his weary soul) was a good man who taught his sons and daughters equally, he was a man with radical ideas for his time, he believed in true equality for all men, women, and those somewhere between,he strived for world peace (and he was ex military),he also believed in good strong family values, was somewhat contradictory, he believed both in free thinking and knowing when to fall into step and march with the same drum as the social norm, he was a man of many layers, a deep thinker, but keeping life simple and uncomplicated,he was so much more than I could ever attempt to explain but most importantly (to me) he was my Father and Best Friend.

I strive to be the best co parent (Dad) that I can be for our son "Hammy" , I draw a lot on the values and lessons that my Father taught me and also from some select male friends who are Fathers themselves, I sometimes fall short as a parent, but I am smart enough to know it takes a thousand "atta boys" to erase just one negative name or comment.

I guess my Father had the foresight to know that I would grow up to be more of a Father figure to a child and never be a Mom,though he never ever spoke to me about it, he just simply accepted me as I was and am and poured his knowledge and values into me, now at age 46,I look back at my life and I smile, Dad always called me Butch the only time he ever called me by my real name was when I was in hot water, his nickname for me has stuck with me throughout my life, all my friends (which are mostly straight)call me Butch, I am so used to it that I almost signed my name as Butch on my drivers licence! I have seriously considered changing my name legally to Butch.

I owe everything I have and have become to my Father, I am very proud to have had him in my life, he always was and always will be my role model, the one person who I have always looked up to, been inspired by,I truly miss him everyday, and I am always asking myself what would Dad do? when I am in a new situation or feel myself getting angry, I of course can never actually become my Father, but I can emulate him to a certain degree, fallow his wisdom, and pass on his knowledge, kindness, understanding and his zest for life onto our son "Hammy",and he in turn can eventually pass that along to his children.

guess thats about it for now
